Mongkhon
This is the name of the traditional headband in which a taiboxer goes out to fight. Before the fight, he performs the traditional Ram Muay dance. The bandage is a rope twisted from one hundred and eight strands. The number of threads 108 is a sacred number for Buddhism. The thickness of such a rope does not exceed the thickness of a finger. The ends are twisted with a strip of cloth on which magical signs and symbols are applied. The bandage is worn only during the performance of the Vai Kru rite, part of which is the Ram Muay dance. Before the fight begins, the referee or coach removes the bandage from the fighter.
