In the 90s, the Vitebsk squad in the Belarusian championships became champions and bronze medalists three times, silver medals four times, and also won the National Cup 6 times. Plus, the team successfully competed in European competitions, going through several rounds. In European Cups, I remember first of all the matches with the Italian Modena and the Greek Olympiacos; Olympic champions and world volleyball stars played on these teams. Thanks to those successes, “Marko-VSTU” (successor of “Sputnik”) remains to this day one of the most titled volleyball clubs in Belarus, as well as professional teams in our region.
At this very time, working as a videographer at the television company “Channel 48” (Vitebsk), I filmed the weekly sports program “Stadium” for three years. Romanovich Mikhail Nikolaevich continues to watch all the home matches of his favorite team, which he created. The captain of that star squad, Mikhail Khonyak, is now the head coach of Marko-VSTU. It's only begining.
